Details: Cattle need to be hardy enough to survive cold snaps in winter on swath/bale grazing. If cold snap lasts longer than a week some supplemental grain is provided. Cattle are rotationly grazed on pasture all summer( some pastures have alfalfa in them) with the help of a few electric wires, a few buckets of grain are always brought as extra enticement to help move them across the road. Catching them in a corral in the corner of a pasture is usually fairly easily accomplished as most cattle are in groups of less than 25 head and come running at the sound of a Dodge cummins with a few buckets of grain in the back. Free choice mineral and salt are provided in feeders all year long. The last couple of years I switched to a special breeder mineral from May 1 to Aug 25.
